Year 3 - Pink Class and Violet Class
Autumn 2025
We have had an extremely busy but wonderful start to Year 3! The children have learnt lots already and have been super enthusiastic about the topics we have covered. They have particularly enjoyed learning about the Romans and the changes they made that can still be seen today like roads, flushing toilets and Roman baths. They have also been thriving in PE lessons, they have learnt many new skills in rugby and gymnastics. Learning to speak French and playing the recorder has also played a big part in this half term's learning.
They have been creative in making Greek masks inspired by Karolina Romanowska as well as producing some natural art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy during creative arts week. During writing their balanced argument and setting description, they all showed off their fantastic writing skills and amazing use of vocabulary. Some children have already earnt their pen license by showing off their neat joined-up handwriting and we look forward to seeing lots more children achieve this in Autumn 2.
The children have even had some energy left to learn about light during science. They have carried out lots of investigations testing reflective materials, how shadows are made and how mirrors work. The children definitely deserve a half-term break!
Summer 2025
In the first part of the Summer term, Year 3 studied how the Romans invaded England and the changes they made that can still be seen today.
In English, we extended our learning and wrote about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii, the children produced some excellent descriptive writing based on this.
We launched our new topic about renewable energy with a trip to Magna in Sheffield. They learnt a lot in the practical workshop and loved exploring the different earth, wind, air, fire and water areas in the museum. A fun day was had by all!
Year 3 enjoyed getting messy and creative when they made some interesting clay fruit in the style of Kaori Kurihara.
They are now developing quite the repertoire of tunes on their recorders and are busy practising for their end of year performance.
The classrooms are looking very full at the end of the Summer term as the children have started making castles using junk modelling and 3D shapes, we are sure they will look brilliant when they are finished and will be fit for a King or Queen!
It has been a busy and fun-filled year and all the Year 3 would like to thank parents and carers for their ongoing support.
We wish the children the best of luck for Year 4!
Spring 2 2025
Over the Spring term, the children in Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed learning about seasonal fruits and vegetables and used this new knowledge to design their own vegetable tart. They impressed us with some brilliant team work to cook some very appetising tarts. Afterwards, there were some really considered evaluations, one child wrote that they thought the most difficult thing about the process was being brave to try a new vegetable - we were impressed with how many children tried new things during this unit. A lot commented that they would like to cook more at home, so we're looking forward to hearing about those that have chosen to develop their cookery skills and treated their family to a delicious vegetable tart.
Spring 1 2025
Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed the DT unit this term, the children have been developing their sewing skills. We have practised how to use running and cross stitching to add applique, and to embellish our designs. These photographs show some brilliant examples of needle work. It resulted in some fantastic Egyptian style collars from each and every child - well done, Violet class and Pink class.
Autumn 1 2024
What a busy start to Year 3... the children have learnt so much already. They are especially enjoying some new things now that they are in KS2, such as outdoor PE lessons with Mrs Clarke and recorder lessons. The Stone Age theme has been very successful. Some favourite lessons have been investigating how fossils are formed using sweets and bread; describing woolly mammoths, creating their own cave drawings and of course the Stone Age day workshop. They have even had some energy left for learning how to use column addition and subtraction with 3-digit numbers!
The children definitely deserve a half-term break!
