Learning Mentor - Mrs Hewitt
I am Mrs Hewitt and I work as a Learning Mentor at Guiseley Primary School providing support and guidance to pupils, helping them overcome barriers to learning which may be due to social, emotional or behavioural problems. At Guiseley Primary School, we believe that supporting the health and well-being of our pupils will assist in improving their academic outcomes.
I work closely with other adults, both within and outside school, to identify and break down barriers, helping children to stay motivated so that they can achieve their best.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) is critical to the development and educational achievement of children and young people and research has shown it has important consequences for health and social outcomes in adult life.
After liaising with parents, support within school can cover:
Increasing confidence and self esteem
Transition to high school
Improving attendance and punctuality
Friendships, behaviour and social skills
Support through difficulties at home and at school
Improving relationships with others
Listening and helping them to understand their feelings
Expressing their views
Bereavement
Support may include:
Intervention groups
Targeted individual support
Outside agency input (e.g. Counselling)
We are keen to work in partnership, to support pupils and families, so if you have a concern about your child please do not hesitate to contact me in school or via the school office: office@guiseleyprimary.org or sefeguarding@guiseleyprimary.org
