Headteacher - Mrs Fiona Wharton

Guiseley Primary School

THE GOVERNING BODY 2024 - 2025

The Governing Body of Guiseley Primary is very proud of the school’s happy, enthusiastic children and the hard working, talented and committed staff. In all our decision making we support the school’s moto of, ‘together we learn, together we grow, together we achieve.’

Our governing body re-constituted in January 2014 when the school joined the Aireborough Learning Partnership Co-operative Trust and now comprises 11 governors, each of which holds a term of office for four years. The governing body comprises:

 1 Headteacher

1 Elected Staff governor

2 Elected Parent governors

1 Local Authority governor

4 Co-opted governors

2 Trust governors

Our Governors are drawn from different parts of our community including parents.

The Governing Body members are elected or chosen from a number of different groups to govern the school in conjunction with the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team.

Our Governing Body hold full governing body meetings each half term. There are currently no sub-committees.

 School Governors are:

Parents
Staff at the school.
Local council representatives.

Community representatives, business people.

Parent Governors:

Have a child in school.
Are elected by parents in the school.
Serve, as do other Governors, for four years.
The Governing Body is responsible for many aspects of school organisation. Governors have a duty to keep under review the way the school is developing.

The Role of The Governing Body

The Governing Body has three main roles as outlined in the Governors’ Handbook:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction

Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.

Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities. They can only act together and not individually. They receive training to help them carry out their role.
